The text can use a gradient, three flag-style stripes or per-letter colours, with four pixel fonts (large, small, bubble and classic) and a live preview of each. You can also build your strip frame by frame with 90+ movements and effects (float up, fly in and away, drop and bounce, zoom, blink, grey out, typewriter, flood, shutter, slide to unlock, recolouring balls, stone, bazooka, pipe, UFO, wings, explosion…) or use one of xat's 1,759 2D avatars.

What is a retro xat 2D GIF?+

A strip of 30×30 px frames with your nick animated in pixel style: falling letters, shines, UFOs, explosions, swirls. Here you pick a template, type your nick and colours, and the site renders every frame instantly.

How do I set the GIF as my xat avatar?+

Upload the file to an image host that allows GIFs and paste the URL in Settings → Avatar. With the Avatar/Animated power xat will play it animated.

What size is the GIF?+

Frames are generated at xat's avatar size and exported as GIF89a with an optimised palette, so the file stays small.

What are the 2D avatars?+

The numbered avatars xat ships by default (0 to 1758). Here you can browse them all and download any of them.

Can I colour my nick like a flag?+

Yes. Under "Text colours" pick "Flag: 3 stripes" (horizontal or vertical) or "Per letter" and set colours 1, 2 and 3. The "Flag" template makes the three stripes slide in, form your nick and wave.
