Video to GIF converter

Upload a video (any format), choose the clip, size and FPS, and get the GIF. Next to it, the square version with borders (A) and borderless / transparent (B) for a xat avatar, each with its download and link. Everything runs in your browser.

The resulting GIF and the square / borderless versions will appear here.

Upload a video (MP4, WEBM, MOV, MKV or AVI), see its size and duration, set the start and end seconds, choose the output resolution (original, 800 px, 600 px, 320 px, 160 px for xat or a custom size), the frames per second and the number of colours, and get an animated GIF with its final size. Then you can resize, crop or rotate it with the built-in editor before downloading. Everything is processed on your device: the video never leaves your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Which video formats can I convert to GIF?+

All of them: MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV, AVI, 3GP, WMV… Formats your browser plays convert instantly; for the rest (for example HEVC/H.265 from phones) a universal ffmpeg-based engine kicks in automatically, downloaded once (32 MB) and running inside the browser too.

How do I make the GIF smaller?+

Shorten the clip (start and end), lower the resolution, reduce the frames per second (10–15 fps is usually enough) and use fewer colours (64 or 128). After the result you can crop and resize even more with the editor.

How long can the video be?+

There is no hard limit, but GIF is a heavy format: we recommend clips under 15 seconds. Above 30 seconds or 600 frames a warning appears because it will take longer and weigh a lot.

Can I make an animated xat avatar with it?+

Yes: choose the 160 px size, about 10 fps and a short clip, then press "Square and borderless GIF": you get the square version with a white border and the version with that border transparent, without touching the inside of the video and with no flicker between frames.
